Who we are

With a decade of industry experience, Jack is the inventor behind New Zealand’s best-selling landscaping grass, the SmartGrass Earth Series. He oversees manufacturing and is always looking for innovative ways to drive the industry forward. Jack lives and breathes SmartGrass — driven by a mission to create happy customers while developing outstanding team members and future leaders. Even with his hands full, he still loves getting involved with clients and witnessing the incredible transformations SmartGrass delivers.

Ashley oversees SmartGrass’s nationwide operations and has been instrumental in expanding our installation teams across New Zealand. With a BA from Canterbury University, she brings a sharp focus on delivering exceptional results for every client. Outside of work, she loves travelling and is an avid reader, tackling over 100 books a year.

Kerry, originally from the Deep South (and a fan of a good cheese roll), is our client-focused GM, helping schools, sports facilities, and commercial projects across New Zealand unlock their landscape potential with SmartGrass. Well-connected and known for his dedication, Kerry is always willing to move mountains to make a project happen. Outside of work, he enjoys running and travelling, having worked all over the globe.

Originally from Germany (despite often being mistaken for South African), Phil brings a strong international leadership background to SmartGrass. He has managed multiple retail businesses across Sweden, the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, and is trained as an optician with a career rooted in people leadership, training, and development. Phil has lived in Switzerland for several years and previously spent time in New Zealand, giving him a global perspective and a strong appreciation for diverse teams and cultures. Outside of work, he’s a self-confessed coffee snob who loves specialty brews, hosting and cooking for family and friends, and spending time in colder climates—especially where there’s snow. He’s married with one son and enjoys making the most of the outdoors.

Anna, born and raised in Christchurch, made the move to Wellington and instantly fell in love with the vibrant city. With a background in sales and industrial design, she brings a creative and strategic approach to her work. Outside the office, Anna enjoys running with her energetic Greyhound-Border Collie cross. Her favourite meal is a classic Kiwi BBQ, and she’s always up for a challenge when it comes to her hidden talent—table soccer

Cameron makes your lawn project fun, easy and stress‑free. Friendly and switched‑on, he listens first and will guide you through smart design ideas on the spot. Years coaching sports across Auckland have sharpened his eye for detail and his knack for keeping projects running smoothly. Off the clock, you’ll find him kicking an Aussie‑rules footy, at the gym or digging into a new personal‑development read.

Jharn believes the best outcomes are born from genuine connections, a bit of personality, and not letting life stresses get in the way of opportunity. When he’s not working, you’ll find him around animals, enjoying music, or cooking and entertaining – usually all at once!

Ellie is the Executive Assistant to the Managing Director at SmartGrass, ensuring our operations run seamlessly. By managing high-level administration, coordinating strategic projects, and overseeing recruitment, she supports our leadership team so every client experience is backed by a well-organised, efficient business. Outside of work Ellie loves to travel and spend time with her dog, Rufus!

Chris keeps everything running behind the scenes, ensuring materials are organised, prepared, and ready for each job. He plays a key role in supporting the team and keeping operations efficient day-to-day.

Glen’s the man who makes things happen. He oversees SmartGrass Installations and has personally completed many hundreds to date himself.

Glen has been with the business since its inception and uses his expertise to train our new employees and franchisees.

Outside of SmartGrass Glen enjoys spending time with the family, mountain biking, jet skiing and playing rugby.

From Ireland, Connal fell in love with New Zealand when he arrived seven years ago. After six years in Auckland he moved to Christchurch after spending a week in the city on a snowboarding trip. In his spare time he makes anything with wheels go faster and loves hitting the slopes with his snowboard.

Rich brings a hands-on approach and a commitment to quality on every job. He makes sure every installation runs smoothly from start to finish.

Dean is a valued member of the team who’s always willing to lend a hand and make sure each job is completed to a high standard.

Liam is a member of our Christchurch installation team and works hard to make sure that every installation exceeds the expectations of our customers.

Jaden is passionate about transforming outdoor spaces, with a practical mindset and strong attention to detail. Jaden works closely with the team to ensure every installation is perfect!

Jordy is a solid installer who gets stuck in and gets the job done right. He brings a good attitude on and off-site, works hard, plays hard, and takes pride in leaving every job looking sharp!
